A. Overview of the Mock Interview Simulation

The self-practice mock interview module will help you run through realistic, job-specific mock interviews that respond in real time.


B. Steps to Create a Practice Mock Interview

1. Start from Home

  • Log in to your InStage account (InStage Login).

  • From the Home page, under Start a Self-Serve Module, select Mock Interview.

  • You can also use the left-hand sidebar to access the Mock Interview module directly.

2. Enter Interview Context

Part 1: Job Title

  • Search or type any job title (e.g. Dental Assistant).

  • Either the form will auto-populate with available job descriptions, or you can search the web for a job description to enter (e.g., a dental assistant job description on Indeed).

  • Copy and paste the job description.


Part 2: Add Resume (Recommended)

  • Select an existing resume or upload a new resume.


Part 3: Interview Setup

  • Select Interview Stage (Screening, Middle or Final Interview practice):

    • Screening Interview

      • The Screening Interview is a first-round interview to get to know the interviewee.

      • Review the available preset question order. Choose between Screening Questions or a Standard Balanced mix of different question types.

    • Middle Interview

      • The Middle Interview(s) will probe you to go more in-depth about the job posting.

      • Select a preset question order that is available to be modified:

        • Standard - a balanced mix of different question types

        • Technical - a heavy emphasis on technical skills assessment

        • Behavioural - a focus on behavioural and cultural assessment

        • Final - a cultural fit and motivation assessment

    • Final Interview

      • The Final Interview is the final round of the interview process.

      • Review the available preset question order. Choose between a Balanced Mix, Technical, Behavioural, or a final cultural fit set of question types.

  • Select Interviewer

    • Select from several options: Nina, David, Myra, John, Ava or Allie (ELL - English Language Learner).

    • An ELL option is available for individuals whose primary language is not English.

    • Click the play icon to hear the voice of the character.

    • On subsequent calls, you can choose to remain with the same character or speak to someone else who will retain the information discussed in previous calls.

  • Select Interviewer Attitude (Friendly, Neutral, Tough).

    • On subsequent calls, you can either maintain the same character's attitude or choose a different one.


Part 4: Start your practice interview

You have two mock interview options: Start Web Call or Call Me Now.

Option 1: Start Web Call - this will launch the call in your web browser.

Before you start your interview, you can click the downward arrow to configure Web Call options, such as:

  • Toggle Show my video on or off

  • Toggle Show avatar video on or off

  • A Confidentiality and Data Sharing window will appear, allowing you to read the general reminders on Confidentiality, Data Sharing, and Deletion & Retention.

  • Click Agree and Continue to launch into the Web Call.

Option 2: Call Me Now - you have the option to receive the call via your mobile device

  • A Confidentiality and Data Sharing window will appear, allowing you to read the general reminders on Confidentiality, Data Sharing, and Deletion & Retention.

  • Click Agree and Continue to launch into the Web Call.

  • You will need to enter your Phone Number and agree to receive a one-time verification code via SMS.

  • Click Verify Number to receive the call and start your simulation.

Part 5: Post Call Report

  • You can review your recent calls under Recent Sessions.

  • You can review the report or share a copy of the report with your Career Services Contact.

  • If you click on 'View' report you will see a summary of the call alongside Strengths and Areas for Improvement, Question by Question Assessment, and Full Transcript.
