A. Overview of Resume and Cover Letter Assist
Tailoring resumes for each job is time-consuming. Our self-serve resume and cover letter tool uses AI to quickly compare your resume to the job posting and rewrite sections to highlight your qualifications.
B. Steps to Create a Resume and Cover Letter
1. Start from Home
Log in to your InStage account (InStage Login).
Next, from the Home page, under Start a Self-Serve Module, select Resume Assist.
Alternatively, you can use the left-hand sidebar to access the Resume Assist module directly at any time.
2. Complete Master Resume
Create your master resume to detail your work experience, education, and skills. This information will be used to generate your resume.
Note: You must complete a master resume to unlock the job-specific resume creation.β
Complete each section of the Master Resume by clicking on the Edit pencil icon or Upload a Resume.
If you prefer, click Upload Resume in the top-right corner to upload an existing resume. A file selection window will open. Choose your resume file, and then click Open to upload it.
Once a Resume is uploaded, a Confidentiality and Data Sharing window will appear, allowing you to read the general reminders on Confidentiality, Data Sharing, and Deletion & Retention. Click on Agree to continue.
Once your resume is uploaded, you can review the sections that have been populated and fill in any missing information. Once you have populated and reviewed the Master Resume Creator, you can navigate back to the Resume Assist home screen.
If any sections are highlighted in red, they indicate incomplete information (the section was not filled in).
3. Create Job-Specific Resume and Cover Letter
To continue, create a job-specific resume under Step 2: Your Resumes & Cover Letter.
Enter Target Job Details
Name Your Resume (e.g. Project Manager, Creative Agency)
Search or Type any Job Title (e.g. Project Manager)
Either the form will auto-populate with available job descriptions, or you can search the web for a job description to enter (e.g., a dental assistant job description on Indeed).
Copy and paste the job description.
4. Review the Resume Editor & Preview
Review each resume section, then confirm the edits or AI rewrites. Repeat this step for every section.
Once you have reviewed and confirmed each section, the Feedback Score at the top can be regenerated.
You will receive a score breakdown for each section, along with positive feedback and areas for improvement.
If you continue refining and making changes, you can regenerate the score.
You can download a copy for your reference.
5. Review the Cover Letter Editor & Preview
Similarly, review each section of the cover letter and confirm the edit or AI rewrite. Ensure each section is completed before continuing.
Once you have reviewed and confirmed each section, the Feedback Score at the top can be re-generated.
You will receive a score breakdown, along with positive feedback and areas for improvement.
If you continue refining and making changes, you can regenerate the score.
You can download a copy for your reference.
Once you have completed both a resume and a cover letter for a specific job, return to the Resume Assist home screen to repeat or end the process.
You can now use this newly created Resume in the Self-Practice Mock Interview module to help you gain confidence and comfort level applying to the role and speaking to your background and qualifications.
