The Job Search Check-In experience

Job search check‑ins are designed to help you stay accountable, reflect on your progress, and identify challenges along the way. InStage uses voice‑AI to guide you through structured conversations about your job search, similar to having a supportive coach. These calls give you the chance to pause, take stock, and plan your next steps.

The goal is to help you set goals, track your momentum, and understand how your job search evolves over time. There are no right or wrong answers—just be honest and speak naturally.

Please note: Job Search Check-In calls will be made available to you at different times throughout your course. You will have the option to schedule the call at a time that is most convenient to you, within the expected call window.

For your assignment, you will be asked to complete a series of job search check-in phone calls using InStage.

Maximizing Your AI Calls

Keep these items in mind as you complete your job search check-in calls.

The check‑in questions are designed to track your progress. You can also use the calls to explore ideas, practice communication strategies, and connect your job search to school and InStage resources. Think of each call as a chance to rehearse, reflect and prepare for the next step in your search. The more effort and specific input you provide, the stronger and more useful the AI agent’s responses will be. Here are some ways to make each call more valuable:

  1. Use the calls to explore career paths by asking about organizations, industries, and job titles connected to your program. You might also ask where graduates in your field typically find roles, or what other job boards and resources could expand your search. Pair this exploration with conversations with your school’s career services staff or instructors, who can share employer connections.

  2. Rehearse professional etiquette by practicing how you might phrase a thank‑you note or a polite follow‑up after an interview. You can also ask for suggestions on what to say if you realize you made a mistake, or when it's appropriate to follow up. For personalized guidance on timing and etiquette, meet with your school’s career services staff.

  3. Build confidence by accessing InStage’s self‑serve resume and cover letter assistance to create tailored application materials for specific postings. If you are facing challenges or feeling unsure, you can also ask about the school's support services and get suggestions for planning your next steps.

  4. Stay connected to school resources by checking the events calendar for career fairs, networking sessions, and employer panels. You might ask the agent what kinds of questions to bring to these events, then meet with co‑op advisors, career counsellors, or instructors for personalized guidance and connections.

  5. Remember that the InStage voice-AI agent helps you reflect, practice, and prepare, while career services staff and instructors connect you directly with opportunities. Using both together gives you the strongest job search strategy.

What you can expect:

1. Baseline Job Search Call (Before You Begin)
This first call helps you think about your job search strategy before you dive in. You’ll be asked about the types of roles you’re targeting, where you plan to look for postings, and what goals you’re setting for yourself. This call captures your starting point.

Important note: If you’ve already started applying, answer as if you were just beginning. Think back to your initial goals and expectations so we can understand your original plan.

2. Progress Check‑In Call(s)
These quick calls happen while you’re actively searching. You’ll share how many applications you’ve submitted, whether you’ve had interviews, and what challenges you’re facing. You’ll also revisit your goals and set new ones for the next stage.

This is your chance to pause mid‑search, reflect on what’s working, and identify barriers like application fatigue or difficulty finding postings.

3. Wrap‑Up Job Search Call (End of Search Period)
This final call helps you look back on your job search as a whole. You’ll reflect on what you accomplished, how confident you feel about interviews, and whether you met the goals you set at the beginning. This call helps you put your experience into words and prepare for what comes next in your career planning.
